Who’s better: Beyoncé or Rihanna?
New analysis by the NPD Group crowns Rihanna the most marketable celebrity in the world, with better options for endorsement deals than stars like Beyoncé, Usher, or Jennifer Lopez. Considering than Beyoncé earned twice what Rihanna did in 2015, we guess the “Drunk In Love” singer isn’t too worried.
The company analyzed its database of 92,000 self-reported consumer surveys to track correlations between fandom and brand preferences. For example, Rihanna would make a good Jeep spokeswoman because people who say they like her music also have a strong preference for Jeep vehicles. But Beyoncé’s fans show a marked preference for Porsche , the company’s Vice President Barbara Zack told Forbes.
The report turns up some interesting quirks of the stars’ fanbases. If you like Rihanna, you’re more likely to enjoy Bonne Bell Cosmetics, the company behind Smackers lip balm. Beyoncé fans like Sony handsets and Rihanna fans favor T-Mobile, but they’re equally well-represented in Virgin Mobile. Both singers’ fan bases favor Gucci, Guess and the now-defunct Juicy Couture, Zack added.
According to a press release, Rihanna’s fans have more brand preferences than the fans of any other big-name celebrity. That makes her the most marketable because she has the most brand endorsement opportunities. Beyoncé clocked in at number two.
But Queen Bey needn’t fear for her throne just yet. She made twice as much money as Rihanna in 2015, and has a higher net worth too. Forbes estimated Beyoncé earned $54.5 million in 2015 compared to Rihanna’s $26 million that same year. According to our most recent calculations, Beyoncé has a net worth of $250 million. She and her husband Jay Z made a combined $110.5 million in 2015 alone.
